The island is easily reached by boats (weather permitting) from the fishing port of Seahouses. Seahouses is best reached by car and is about an hour north of Newcastle Airport. Just to the north is Holy Island and Lindisfarne Priory, a centre for Christians pilgrims for well over a thousand years and once home to the Book of Kells.
